Radio Equipment Directive (RED)

Directive 2014/53/EU

Radio
IMQ is authorised to operate for all products covered by the directive.

Radio equipment, in compliance with the national plan for allocating radiofrequencies, must be constructed so that it effectively uses the spectrum allocated to terrestrial/space radio communications and orbital resources, so as to avoid harmful interference. Further requirements may be established by the European Commission (assisted by a special Commission, TCAM), for specific types of equipment.

The directive applies to radio receivers and/or transmitters which can communicate by the emission and/or reception of radio waves using a radiofrequency spectrum and/or terminal telecommunication equipment.

The essential requirements of the Directive concern:

  • the protection of the health and safety of users and any other person, including the safety objectives of the BT (Low Voltage) Directive, without voltage limits being applied however;
  • protection requirements for electromagnetic compatibility, as required by the EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Directive.
  • Radio equipment must be constructed so that it effectively uses the spectrum allocated to terrestrial/space radio communications and orbital resources, so as to avoid harmful interference.
